πΏ Trauma-Informed Environments: Supporting Our School Community πΏThis week, staff took part in a training session focused on creating a trauma-informed physical environment across our school. The session explored how our surroundings can have a powerful impact on both student wellbeing and learning, particularly for those with SEMH needs and experiences of trauma. We discussed how calm, structured, and thoughtfully designed spaces can help students feel safe, regulated, and ready to engage.Staff were introduced to practical ways to adapt their classrooms, including the use of soothing colour palettes, purposeful layouts, and reduced sensory overload. We also shared visual ideas and examples of how we want our classrooms to look moving forward, along with the positive outcomes we are aiming to achieve for both students and staff. This work is an important step in ensuring our school environment supports every child to thrive, while also promoting staff wellbeing and consistency across the school. We are excited to begin bringing these ideas to life in our classrooms!#newbridge#springboardproject... πͺ΄ A few weeks ago in horticulture, our students planted vegetable seeds into little pots for them to sprout and grow. π«πͺ This week, they learnt how to transfer the small plants into the ground to flourish. Firstly, they cleared the area of rubbish and weeds using a rake and a trowel, then they turned the surface of the soil over with a small gardening fork to soften it and therefore making it easier to plant in. Next, they spread growing material over the surface to add nutrients to the soil and dug holes to accommodate each plant. π§βπΎπ« Once the plants had been transferred, they gave them a good watering using a watering can. Finally, they covered the new plants with a net to stop the pigeons and other birds eating them. π¦πͺ΄ Once the plants have grown fully, the students will harvest them and take them home to eat.
