This week in IB4, we have been focusing on a calm and relaxing theme: โ€œSpa Week.โ€ It has been a lovely opportunity for our learners to explore their senses, develop creativity, and work towards their individual EHCP targets in a meaningful and engaging way.

In art, we created our own mindfulness photographs using paint and shaving foam. This was a wonderfully sensory activity that allowed pupils to explore textures, colours, and patterns in a hands-on way. It was, of course, very messy but that only added to the enjoyment!๐Ÿง– During our English session, we focused on mark making linked to our EHCP targets. Pupils explored a range of sensory materials, including UV sand, water, glitter, and water mats. These activities supported fine motor development while also encouraging communication, and engagement. Each pupil approached the task in their own way, making their marks meaningful and personal to them.๐Ÿ˜Š In our Investigating the World session, we spent time reflecting on our week while exploring our senses in a relaxing, spa-like environment. The children had the opportunity to smell lavender, taste cucumber, and listen to soothing music. We also introduced gentle hand and foot massages, as well as a foot spa, which many pupils found calming and enjoyable. It was wonderful to see how positively they responded to these sensory experiences.๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป Overall, Spa Week has been a fantastic success. It has provided valuable opportunities for sensory exploration, creativity, communication, and relaxation, all while supporting each pupilโ€™s individual learning journey. We are incredibly proud of how engaged and enthusiastic everyone has been throughout the week. โค๏ธ #Newbridge #school #Update ... See MoreSee Less

IB3 have had a highly engaging and sensoryโ€‘rich week, with the young people participating in a range of handsโ€‘on learning experiences designed to support communication, independence and interaction.๐Ÿ’ฌAs part of our Living Skills theme, we explored people who help us. The young people engaged with sensory resources linked to doctors, nurses, police officers and firefighters, exploring uniforms, sound cues and tactile materials to deepen their understanding of these important community roles.๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป The group also took part in a session with Shabang, where they responded positively to music, movement and shared sensory experiences. This supported social interaction, turnโ€‘taking and group participation, and it was encouraging to see such confident engagement.๐Ÿ˜Š In maths, the young people focused on making choices and following interactive actions. They selected preferred items, symbols or songs, and then carried out the corresponding action together as a group. This approach supported decisionโ€‘making, anticipation and active participation in a motivating and accessible way.๐Ÿ‘ Our cooking session was another highlight. The young people prepared homemade pizzas, exploring a range of sensory elements such as texture, smell and taste. They demonstrated excellent engagement as they pressed the dough, spread the sauce and added their chosen toppings.๐Ÿ• Overall, it has been a productive and enjoyable week, with the young people showing increasing confidence, participation and enthusiasm across all activities.๐Ÿ‘ #Newbridge #LearningCentre #Update ... As part of our ongoing exploration of identity, our Year 9 students have been immersing themselves in the fascinating world of Pablo Picasso. Through engaging videos and thoughtful presentations, pupils were introduced to his life and artistic journey, sparking rich discussions about what defines the distinctive style of Cubism and the emotional depth behind Picassoโ€™s Blue Period.

๐Ÿ’™Inspired by their learning, students began to develop their own ideas by designing a series of imaginative, Cubist-influenced masks. These initial concepts became the foundation for a hands-on creative process, as pupils carefully translated their designs into clay.๐Ÿ™Œ Working with clay has provided a wonderfully tactile and rewarding experience, supporting both sensory engagement and the development of fine motor skillsโ€”an especially valuable aspect of learning for our young people. It has been fantastic to see such focus, creativity, and pride in their work.๐Ÿ˜Š As you can see, our kiln is now filled to capacityโ€”an exciting milestone! We eagerly await the next stage, where the masks will be glaze-fired. This final transformation will bring out the vibrant colours and intricate details, truly revealing the beauty of each unique piece.Well done to all of our talented studentsโ€”we are incredibly proud of your creativity and commitment. Stay tuned for the finished results!๐Ÿ‘€ #Newbridge #school #Update ... See MoreSee Less
