🎃 We've had a spooktacular week at the Learning Centre!

Our learners have been working incredibly hard on their individual programmes, and we've been delighted to see some fantastic progress, engagement and achievement across sessions.It's been wonderful to see learners embracing new challenges, developing their skills and making the most of every opportunity. This term in Mr Dawson's class we have done lots of work in maths and living skills. In maths we have looked at using numbers practically, so we had some fun with weighing scales and weighing different objects to understand the use of numbers in that context. In living skills, we have also worked on personal hygiene and developing a good personal hygiene routine, the students demonstrated their understanding of this by showing us their handwashing routine and when they would do this.

As the build-up to Halloween and half term came closer the students in CLMDN enjoyed creating Halloween decorations and took part in the Halloween scare room produced by Miss Emma's class. This morning's post highlights a very special event that took place at the Learning Centre. Over the last three weeks, CL1 have been planning and preparing our Halloween Scare Room, and we are incredibly proud of everything the students achieved.

We began by creating a mind map of ideas, with every student in CL1 contributing their thoughts and suggestions. By working together as a team, we were able to collect lots of creative ideas and decide how we wanted our scare room to look and operate.The event also linked closely to our Environment Theme. We used recycled cardboard and other reusable materials to create many of our decorations and activities, helping us to think about sustainability while being creative.As a class, we decided to create three games that would be accessible and enjoyable for all students across the Learning Centre:What's in the Box? - Students placed their hand into a mystery box to discover what surprise was hidden inside.Pin the Fang on Dracula - A Halloween twist on a classic party game.Witch's Hat Ring Toss - A fun challenge that tested accuracy and coordination.To help create a spooky atmosphere, we decorated the room with Halloween lights, interactive decorations, and Halloween music. These extra touches helped bring our scare room to life and made the experience even more enjoyable for our visitors. Some of the students were so excited that they even enjoyed a dance along to the Halloween music!Throughout the event, the students worked incredibly hard to welcome visitors and ensure everyone had a great experience. Each student was given a specific job and responsibility, including hosting activities, greeting guests, and supporting the different game stations. In Ebase 5, we have had a fantastic term and it has been wonderful to see the students settling into class, developing friendships, and building their confidence throughout their learning. This term, we have enjoyed spending time outdoors exploring the school grounds alongside some of the new students in our class. These opportunities have helped pupils develop their social skills, confidence, and understanding of the environment around them.

🎨 In Art, we have been exploring themes around Halloween and the circus. Pupils have enjoyed creating a range of colourful and imaginative artwork inspired by spooky characters, pumpkins, clowns, and circus performances. They have shown great creativity while experimenting with different materials, colours, and techniques. 🍳 In Cooking we have been focusing on developing our hygiene, practical kitchen skills and learning how to use kitchen utensils safely. The students have practiced grating cheese, cutting onions, and using a rolling pin to roll out dough. These activities have encouraged independence, fine motor skill development, and an understanding of kitchen safety while preparing simple recipes. 🌳 Outdoor Learning has provided opportunities for pupils to explore the school grounds, work alongside their peers, and become more familiar with different areas of the school environment. This morning IB4 enjoyed accessing Miss Emma's community living class, we had lots of fun dancing, having a feel of scary boxes, eating spooky sweets and crisps, and the putting Dracula's sharp teeth onto his mouth.

At the start of the lesson, we revisited our classroom expectations to help everyone prepare for learning. We then watched a short maths song to engage pupils and introduce the maths focus for the session. After this, we watched a short ghost-themed video clip to prepare us for the activity and build anticipation. Pupils were introduced to the LED torch and practised using it safely. They then moved around the room, shining their torches to search for hidden ghosts. Throughout the activity, pupils were encouraged to look carefully, count the ghosts they found, and communicate their findings using their preferred communication method
