7 of our KS4/5 students are having the amazing opportunity to work down at The Shed in Horsforth. The students have worked exceptionally hard this half term creating their own box from different types of wood. They have learnt how to use a saw, drills, automated saws and much more. The students have developed skills such as being accurate, slowing down and being patient.

At the end of this term, we have been creating some items to sell at the Christmas Fayre and Compass House to support our school. The students have been utterly fantastic and have been recognised by The Shed team as being very attentive and precise in all their work. An amazing start and hopefully you will be able to buy some of our Christmas items! ... See MoreSee Less

Staff from the Lighthouse School Careers & Employability Team had the honour of attending the grand opening of the new Scope Community Hub in Leeds city centre last week.

At the buzzing event there were inspiring speeches from the Scope Chief Executive, Mark Hodgkinson, Scope’s Chair, Sir Robin Millar CBE and the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Abigail Marshall Katung, who cut the ceremonial ribbon to open the Hub to the community. The Hub is a fantastic resource for the city - a welcoming accessible multi-space where disabled people and their families can access support and make exciting community connections. To find out more about the Leeds Hub and upcoming events visit: www.scope.org.uk/leeds-community-hub ... Nine of our art students had the pleasure of visiting the Create / Elevate exhibition at Harewood House today.

The wonderfully inspiring exhibition in the beautiful house and grounds celebrates the work of 16 British and international artists in a stunning celebration of craft. Our Lighthouse School Asda Heroes had the best time last week at the launch event for the project at the Asda Merchandising Centre of Excellence.

The Heroes spent the day with students from ten other schools and our local Asda Champion completing a range of activities to understand their mission and generate their ideas for their project pledges. Our Asda Heroes came up with a number of initiatives to work on in school this year to meet the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals of No Poverty, Zero Hunger and Responsible Consumption. These include: organising a recycling zone in school; working with local food banks; and connecting with local elderly residents. We're so excited to be involved in this project and can't wait to see all of the great global citizen work that our Asda Heroes achieve as part of it. ...
