π§ββοΈπ§π§ββοΈThe Year 10 Sports and Outdoors pupils had their second rock climbing session at Summit Up this morning. This week the group learnt how to belay one another using the climbing equipment. They were taught how to set up the rope and the belay plate and attach it to the carabiners on their harnesses. They learnt how to position their hands and feed the rope through as their partner climbed, they also learnt how to safely bring their partner down.π§ββοΈπ§π§ββοΈ Each pupil had a go at belaying and being belayed by their partners. The group managed to get the hang of the skill after a lot of practicing.π§ββοΈπ§π§ββοΈOnce everyone had practiced, they made their way over to the auto belays and finished off the session climbing some of the more trickier walls.π§ββοΈπ§π§ββοΈ#samuellaycock#newbridge#Update... πΏLast week, our Year Sports Pathway pupils took to the slopes at Chill Factore for their second skiing lesson of the year. Pupils were much more confident in getting changed into their skiing boots independently and were raring to go on the slopes. This week pupils were continuing to learn the basics of skiing, developing their turning by directing their skiβs in the right direction.β·οΈPupils were also learning to stop safely, and we witnessed some amazing progress. Our pupils were then allowed to go onto the escalator to move further up the slope which after two weeks was brilliant to see. All pupils who took part displayed incredible effort and determination and we are looking forward to seeing their progress next week. π Well done, everyone!π #samuellaycock#newbridge#Update... π7B have been very busy so far this term. We have done lots of independent reading using our reading apps.π We have learnt about the different symbols for electrical components and made some simple yet intricate circuits!π‘ In drama we have been learning about freeze frames and perfecting our actions.π In food technology we began learning about plant foods, where they come from and taste tasting a few before planning what plant based dish to make next week.π± In PSHE Miss Bottomley was super proud of our class presentations! We got into groups and learnt about different health conditions, then in our groups we researched symptoms, causes and preventative tips before creating a keynote and presenting to our peers!π€ In music we are carrying on with our learning on the ocarina, we have just started practising the different notes.πΆ #samuellaycock#newbridge#Update... πIt was a very practical day for 9M on Friday. We created ukulele models during our music lesson. We then completed the 'tower challenge' as part of our Buildings and Architecture art topic. Great team work by all.π #samuellaycock#newbridge#Update... See MoreSee Less
βοΈπ³Last week, pupils from the Horticulture pathway supported 8G in Forest School. We all took part in a communication game where one pupil had a blind fold on and the other pupil had to lead them around the rope. βΊοΈPupils could only use the instructions. up, down, forward, stop and duck. This was lovely to see KS4 pupils working with KS3. All pupils enjoyed the game. Horticulture would like to thank 8G and Mrs Harrison for letting us support the session. β€οΈ #samuellaycock#newbridge#Update... See MoreSee Less
πPupils from the horticulture pathway have been very busy this week. Maintenance work on the polytunnel has been under way on Thursday. We made a list of jobs that needed doing, including filling the water butts, watering the plants that have survived the frost, potting on the Hot Lips and Euphorbia plants and putting the bigger plants outside.πͺ΄ Also this week, pupils went on a nature walk around Etherow Park. We saw some interesting Mandarin Ducks along with the usual geese, ducks and pigeons, we even bought some seeds to feed them and really enjoyed doing this. Afterwards we had time for a hot drink and the pupils independently ordered and paid for them which was a good opportunity to practice some living skills. We had lots of compliments from the cafe staff and members of the public about how well behaved and polite everyone was, we had a lovely time! β€οΈ #samuellaycock#newbridge#Update... See MoreSee Less
π€©Yesterday, 9C had an absolutely fantastic trip to the Blue Planet Aquarium! The pupils were buzzing with excitement as we explored the fascinating world of marine life. We saw some magnificent stingrays and sharks being fed, which was truly a sight to behold. Walking through the shark tunnel was definitely a highlight, with the sleek creatures gliding above us. π¦ One of the most amusing moments was spotting a giant octopus having a shower β yes, you read that right! π We also caught a glimpse of fierce piranhas and some rather impressive crocodiles. Throughout the day, the pupils behaved exceptionally well, showcasing just how wonderful and well mannered Samuel Laycock pupils are. π Their enthusiasm and respect for the experience made the day even more enjoyable. A massive thank you to everyone for making this trip memorable! β€οΈ #samuellaycock #newbridge #Update ... See MoreSee Less

π€©This weekβs PE lessons have been a variety of different sports, including trampolining, gymnastics, team games and dance.πΊ The focus of core group basketball lessons has been learning the rules: travelling and double dribbling. All of our pupils worked hard to implement those rules within game situations. Shea has taken on the role of referee making sure that the basic rules are being followed and building his confidence and self esteem within this role.π Year 7βs have been exploring motifs, formations and travelling, using these elements to create their own dance choreography. It has been delightful to watch them express themselves through their dancing.π― Year 8βs have been concentrating on their balancing within gymnastics, creating intricate group balances and putting them into a routine. They have been pushed out of their comfort zones, working closely with different people, developing their trust.π€ΈββοΈ The sensory and communication classes have been continuing their trampolining, some groups use this session as a sensory output whilst other groups have been progressing onto seat landings and back landings.π€© #samuellaycock #newbridge #Update ... Hi Jo Limb it is me you're old buddy. I really miss going with you on the trips. I really enjoy it if I can work with you again.
π€©Yesterday, pupils from the Digital Pathway participated in their first session of work experience at the Sharp Futures Project. π We started with a presentation about the Sharp Project, we learnt about the premises and businesses that are based there. The buildings are used for filming in the large studios and green screen areas. There are recording studios for sound and voice overs. We learnt how Manchester locations can be changed to look like New York or a 1940βs London street. π€© We had a tour of the buildings and saw the green screen studios and smaller business rooms β these house all sorts of digital and creative companies. π We took part in a skills quiz to find out which digital career we would suit and had a presentation from POD β an agency for jobs in television, film and radio. πΊ π₯ π» In the afternoon we looked at branding, logos and social media.π We have had a great first day and are looking forward to day 2 next week. π€© #samuellaycock #newbridge #Update ... πItβs been a great start to 2025 for KS4 Comms. We have been very busy in starting our learning for our new topic, oceans and seas. πWe started by creating our new display board as a class. With the help of staff, we created a sea background and then created silhouettes of sea animals using oil pastels. We have also used chalk to make pictures of jellyfish. π€© In PSHE lessons, we have started to look at the dangers of water for humans and what could happen if a person gets into danger. We have roleplayed making a telephone call to the emergency services and learnt how to deliver CPR in a very emergency situation. Everyone was very keen to learn such a vital life skill. β #samuellaycock #newbridge #Update ... See MoreSee Less
