We’ve only been at Bewerley Park for half a day, but what a start it’s been! From climbing walls and leaping off the Leap of Faith to making fires (and even making our own beds!), we’ve already challenged ourselves, supported each other, and stepped out of our comfort zones. The adventure is well and truly underway — and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the week brings. School Council are supporting Walk to School Day Friday 28th March!Did you know that in North Yorkshire more carbon emissions are created by transport than anything else, and that more than three quarters of this comes from cars and vans?Petrol and diesel cars produce gases that warm our atmosphere, which causes unpredictable and extreme weather conditions. This leads to many problems, not only for polar bears in the Arctic, but also right here on our doorstep with heavy rain and floods. We need to find a way to reduce the amount of fossil fuels we use, ideally down to zero. This is why we support Harrogate's Zero Carbon Walk to School Days each half term. So please be a zero hero and swap your car for a lovely walk to school this Friday. The physical and mental health benefits of exercise are well known, with studies also showing that walking to school improves concentration and helps pupils arrive ready to learn. Making the journey on foot, by bike or using public transport means fewer vehicles on the road, benefitting the wider community with less traffic and cleaner air. Or park further away and walk the last part- any little helps! ... See MoreSee Less
Starlings have loved finding out about toys from the past this week. They have taken on the role of a historian and created questionnaires to ask parents/grandparents about what toys were like when they were younger. We’ve talked about our favourite toys and compared them to toys from the past. We’ve particularly enjoyed learning about the history of the teddy bear and having a teddy bear’s picnic with our favourite teddies. ... See MoreSee Less
