On Thursday 6th March, school celebrated World Book Day and students were invited to dress up as their favourite book character. School hosted various activities throughout the day including 'Interview an Author' sessions with 3 fantastic authors; Wendy Jones, Olga Wotjas and Alexandra Benedict, design a book cover, complete a book review and a ‘guess the masked reader’ competition. As part of the World Book Day celebrations, school held a book swap where students could exchange one of their books for a book they had not read before. Lighthouse School’s inter-schools Robotics competition 2025Friday 11th July 2025 9.30am to 3pm - Leeds Beckett University (Headingley Campus)Are you a secondary school in Leeds? Would your students like to design a robot and enter our competition?The competition is open to all Leeds secondary schools, with a maximum of 10 per team, aged between 11-16 years.This is a free event for Leeds schools to enter and has been designed to be low cost and inclusive for all students, including those with SEND.Competing schools will be asked to design and build a robot which meets a set of criteria and complete a set of tasks. These tasks are designed to mimic those used in companies for delivery tasks. Teams can use programmable Lego, Vex robotics kits, store bought robots, or make their own robots with programmable boards such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi or Microbits.The design and make process could be done during an extra-curricular club, or within lessons as part of the KS3 curriculum, and will inspire your future engineers to improve their IT and programming skills, as well as build on their current design and build knowledge.
