π Food Tech Communication 3ππ» Itβs always nice to finish the week with a lovely food tech lesson with these guys, especially as they have such a wonderful sense of humour - all will be revealed at the end!π Flat bread from scratch was the recipe of the day, we measured and mixed and rolled our bread mixtures. Grated cheese like experts with no added skin this week, always a bonus.π§ The time came to cook our flatbreads using the hotplate, a couple of minutes each side. As the cooking progressed, 3 flatbread per student Miss Scott noticed that the room was getting a little smoky so opened all the windows and doors as she did not want the fire alarm to go off.πͺ πͺ All a sudden, a few minutes later the dulcet tones of our fire alarm started ringing β Miss Scott and Miss Taylor looked at each other and were about to evacuate when Rory in the corner pipes up βit's me!!β He had snuck his iPad off the side and had put a YouTube video on of the fire alarm!π¨ Both Misses aged a year today!π Enjoy the flat bread families!π #samuellaycock#newbridge#Update... π This half term, the Communication Pathwayβs topic was festivals. Over the half term, we have been planning on hosting a party for another class.π Throughout our Living Skills lessons, we have invited another class to our party, gathered information through questionnaires about what party food and drinks people would like and planned party games and what music people would like to hear.πΆ Following this, we looked on Asda website to create a shopping list, then cooked the food in preparation for the other class arriving. We made decorations and order forms to take orders from our guests.π This was an excellent opportunity to demonstrate our excellent communication skills with people we donβt know and offer a party hosting service to others.π¬ Everyone had a great time eating food like pizza, quorn nuggets, quorn sausage rolls, hot dogs and crisps; as well as a range of drinks. We listened to music and played some games.π #samuellaycock#newbridge#Update... See MoreSee Less

π₯Ύ Hartshead Pike & Knott Hill Reservoir blogπ₯Ύ Our Sports and Outdoors group took on the challenge of a very soggy and windswept practice walk from school to Hartshead Pike and round to Knott Hill Reservoir, despite the weatherβs best attempts to soak us through, the groupβs teamwork and resilience was excellent as always.πͺ We made our way up Hartshead Pike, where the views tried to peak through the clouds before we made our way down to Knott Hill Reservoir. This route provided us with some good opportunities to practice our maps skills in real expedition conditions (we canβt have sunny walks all the time!).π The group covered an impressive distance of 8.58km (5.3 miles) and completed a huge 10,500 steps, all whilst battling the Great British drizzle!π§οΈ The weather might not have been on our side, but the group's attitude definitely was. Weβll be taking on more challenging walks after the Easter break as we edge closer to our upcoming expeditions.π #newbridge#samuellaycock#Update... See MoreSee Less

π In performing arts pathway, Year 11 have been busy backing boards in the hall for their upcoming exhibition. As part of their Silver Arts Award, they have to plan an event.π₯ Having already planned and delivered their own Christmas showcase themselves for invited guests, they are going to be presenting an exhibition of their talents and skills this term.π€© There was a lot of trial and error involved as the students planned, measured and cut the paper and borders themselves!βοΈ They all know how to use a staple gun safely and effectively now and how to rip it up and start again!π Year 10 have been working on their Bronze Arts Award scrapbooks and have been writing about themselves as audience members. They have added QR codes of their recent VLOGs where they reviewed the filmed version of the musical, Hamilton.πΆ They have also all completed their Skills Share unit, learning a country and western dance and teaching it to the Year 11s. They were so confident, they even volunteered to perform in front of our audience.πͺ Visitors came into school just before Easter to watch the whole pathway perform their tutting dance. Tutting is a fast paced dance style characterized by intricate, geometric, and angular movements of the arms and fingers, reminiscent of Egyptian Hieroglyphics. It takes its name from King Tutankhamun.π #samuellaycock #newbridge #Update ... See MoreSee Less

π π¦ Over the last few weeks, we have had the excellent opportunity of completing some work experience at Strawberry Fox CafΓ©. Upon arrival, we were given a tour of the cafΓ© and were shown how to use the coffee machines. We learnt how to make lattes, flat whites, cappuccinos and hot chocolates.βοΈ We practiced making our own hot chocolates, taking orders and making coffees for the office staff.π On the final week, we hosted our own mini cafΓ© for a class at the school. We introduced ourselves and took drinks orders from the students. We then made them a hot drink independently using the coffee machine and delivered them to the students as well as a cake. We then made our own.β€οΈ We then enjoyed playing games with each other and talking about what their school was like.π Everyone had such an amazing time at this incredible opportunity. Every student was a credit to our school, behaving impeccably and showing the core values of Samuel Laycock. Well done, everyone!π #samuellaycock #newbridge #Update ... See MoreSee Less

βͺοΈ Sensory Classes 1, 2 and 3 visit to St Johnβs Church Ashton.βͺοΈ Tuesday 24th March - Super Learning Day Christianity.βοΈ The Sensory Classes visited St Johns Church in Ashton as part of our Super Learning Day about Christianity.βοΈ We climbed aboard 3 school minibuses for the short journey; we made our way down the path quietly displaying Samuel Laycock values of politeness and the Reverend Schofield met us at the door.πͺ We sat in the main building of the church while Reverend Schofield told us some interesting facts about the church and the faith such as the church building is approx 180 years old.π€© The Reverend then organised a scavenger hunt for us, we explored the different parts of the church trying to find the different clues that had been left out for us.π΅οΈπ΅οΈββοΈπ΅οΈββοΈWe all thanked the Reverend and returned to School to continue our learning and of course some arts and crafts.π #samuellaycock #newbridge #Update ...
